Joanne Trzcinski, Jazz Piano & Vocals

Joanne Trzcinski, pianist and jazz vocalist, is a fresh addition to the Oregon Willamette Valley music scene. Although a local to the area now, she brings a touch of her back east urban roots to the Willamette Valley. She has performed jazz standards and originals at local wineries, eateries and special events over the past few years. Her first CD, White Shirt Black Suit, was recorded with an ensemble of jazz musicians, two of which are her own family members and released a year ago. Joanne's vocals are smooth and dreamy and her "easy listening" musical style makes her music enjoyable to audiences of any age.

Van Meyers Jazz, Explorations in New Music

What has happened to America's original musical art form jazz? In the U.S. it has become an antiquated museum piece securely placed under a glass case, ever-guarded by the Jazz Police, transformed from a vibrant, expressive art form into an object to be observed and dissected in universities ("Jazz Studies"), and barely acknowledged by a distracted American listening public. The be-bop sonically immortalized on 1950s and 60s jazz records surely deserves our continual respect, admiration and listening; there is always something to learn from the masters who preceded us. However, consistently regurgitating the musical past is a form of artistic suicide.

The Van Meyers Jazz is stepping away from the past and inviting the listener and viewer into a musical world where artistic communication and the risk of blazing new musical ground is a never ending goal. It is best to set aside preconceived notions of what jazz is or isn't and just dig the journey. . .
